Thirteen media students from Derry needed hospital treatment for salmonella poisoning during a trip to Germany.

The group, from the Nerve Centre in Derry, were attending the summer school in Rostock with 100 other students from Dublin, Italy, Spain and Germany. Altogether 63 of the students, aged between 18 and 22, were treated in hospital for the effects of food poisoning.

The students became ill at the weekend after a party during which they had consumed quantities of tiramisu, which includes eggs, cream cheese, coffee and liqueurs. Most of the students were discharged from hospital yesterday.
