MS Nancy Soderberg, staff director of the National Security Council in the US administration, met the Tanaiste, Mr Spring, on Tuesday, Geraldine Kennedy, Political Correspondent reports.
It is understood President Clinton's key adviser on Northern Ireland policy spent a few days in Ireland.
No details, however, were available from Government sources last night about the visit, other than that it had been arranged before the Taoiseach's trip to the US last week.
