A private third-level college yesterday settled a case brought by a former student who claimed the course she was enrolled on was not the one she was required to sit.
LSB College, Dublin, agreed to pay a sum of money to Ms Maria Nugent of Athlone.
Ms Nugent had sought a refund of course fees of £721 plus damages and expenses for breach of contract. She claimed she had enrolled in the four-year BA in Counselling and Psychotherapy and was told on the first day of the course the title of the first two years of the course had been changed to "applied social studies/counselling".
LSB course director, Ms Maeve Nolan, said the course Ms Nugent took up ultimately led to the professional qualification she was seeking, and that despite the change it was still identical to the four year degree course.
