The Contract Bridge Association of Ireland's national, major, mixed pairs championship (Spiro Cup), and intermediate, mixed pairs (Jim Fitzgerald Trophy), decided over three sessions at the Hotel Kilkenny, attracted 190 players.

The main event was won by B. Rafferty, and J. Heneghan with a score of 3,113 matchpoints. Runners-up were J. Kenny, and E. Feerick with 3,085.

Third prize was won by P. Maguire, and Dr G.M. Keaveney with 3,084, fourth by T. Rigney, and N. Toibin with 3,021, and fifth by C.A. Cummins, and J. Noonan with 2,967.

Best masters: C. and P. Claffey. Sessional winners: M. Trench, P. Porteous; A. MacHale, K. de Raeymaeker; S. Gallagher, D. Byrne.

The CBAI will run a congress confined to intermediates, and novices in the Lady Gregory Hotel, Gort, on October 22nd-25th.
