The striking voice of this young Lithuanian singer- songwriter will first cause you to pause. Released a few years ago in Lithuania (where Orlova's second album has just appeared) and now receiving a wider push thanks to Fargo's involvement, LaukinisSuo Dingo is a playful, stately, impressive introduction to Alina Orlova. Singing in Lithuanian and Russian as well as English, Orlova's songs are a blend of Baltic folk, leftfield indie rock and chamber-pop, which will probably invite comparisons to Kate Bush, Regina Spektor and Björk. Yet Orlova's craftsmanship and finesse with topping and tailing arrangements lifts Vaiduokliai, Po Tilt and the lush, gorgeous Twinkle Twinkle Little Starlullaby above the pack.
