THE closure of Lisburn's Safeway store will mean the loss of 90 jobs. Safeway has told the 45 full-time and 45 part-time staff it will close at the end of the month.
The store, which is just outside the town centre, has faced competition from a newly built Tesco outlet. It also failed to buy the town's old swimming pool site, a move which would have given it a more central location.
Safeway remains committed to the area and is looking for a new site. Since it took over the larger branches of the Wellworths chain it has closed four stores, built three new ones and is upgrading several others.
