US OUTSOURCING and web services firm Hostopia has signed a deal with Eircom to locate its European operations at the telephone company’s data centre in Clonshaugh, Co Dublin.
The €100 million data centre opened for business last summer. Eircom says that over half of the 2,700sq m currently available has been taken up by Irish and international clients.
These clients include the Department of Transport, Phonovation, AXA Insurance and the Health Service Executive.
Eircom is currently kitting out an additional 2,700sq m at the facility and is also “actively looking at another data centre development”, said Declan Ivory, general manager for data centre services at Eircom.
Hostopia is also opening a small office in Dublin to support the business being served from the data centre.
Colin Campbell, chief executive of Hostopia, said: “We have very strong ambitions to aggressively drive business across the EU, and Ireland seemed the obvious location to explore.”
Mr Ivory said there was still a lot of interest in Ireland as a business location and Eircom was actively selling into the US market.
“These are not labour-intensive activities but they require comprehensive infrastructure which supports jobs and activity in Ireland,” Mr Ivory said.
He added that Eircom was choosing Irish suppliers wherever possible, including Kingspan for wall units and Donegal-based EI Engineering for specialist power components.
