Career: Since June 1998, Dr Derbez acted as co-ordinator of Mr Vicente Fox's 2000-2008 government programme for Mexico when Mr Fox was the National Action Party's presidential candidate. In November 2000, he was appointed to President Fox's cabinet as economic secretary.

Family: He is Married to Rosa M. Aranda since 1969 and has three daughters, Ana, Alicia and Maria.
