Tranmere manager John Aldridge is in further difficulty with the English FA after being hit with a third misconduct charge in four months. Aldridge will appear at Lancaster Gate for remarks made to fourth official Ian Bentley during the first division game with Portsmouth at Fratton Park on March 1st which Tranmere won 2-1.

In addition, the former Republic of Ireland international is still waiting to answer two other FA charges. First he was charged with misconduct for alleged comments to referee Jeff Winter surrounding the league encounter with Birmingham at St Andrew's on November 24th, which Tranmere lost 3-1. Then Aldridge was hit with another charge for an alleged altercation with Leicester substitute Theo Zagorakis during the League Cup final on February 27th.

Ian Wright yesterday escaped with a two-match ban following his clash with fourth official Willie Young during a match for his former club Celtic. Wright, who appeared in person in front of the Scottish FA's disciplinary committee at their Park Gardens headquarters in Glasgow, departed without comment after the verdict. The striker's ban will affect him playing for Burnley and start this weekend.

Coventry manager Gordon Strachan has agreed a new deal with the club which will keep him at Highfield Road for a further five years. The 43-year-old is expected to sign the deal with the club within the next few days.

England midfielder Darren Anderton is set to sign a new deal with Tottenham, reported to be worth £24,000 a week. Anderton is expected to sign the one-year extension to his contract in the next couple of days, which would make him, along with Frenchman David Ginola, the club's highest-paid player.

Nicolas Anelka was yesterday told he will not be considered for selection by the French national squad until his suspension with Spanish side Real Madrid ends. French federation president Claude Simonet said he had discussed the situation with French coach Roger Lemerre and they supported Real's 45-day suspension of Anelka for missing three days' training without permission.
