SCOTTISH CUP FIFTH ROUND Dunfermline 2 Celtic 4:CELTIC STRIKER Robbie Keane played down his own contribution to the Scottish Cup tie against Dunfermline after he came off the bench to score his first goal for the club in a 4-2 win.

The Hoops had struggled in the first half, falling 2-1 behind before snatching an equaliser before the break.

Keane, who spent the opening 45 minutes on the bench, came on at the start of the second half and converted a 68th-minute penalty after a Calum Woods own goal had put Celtic ahead.

“Today the most important thing was getting the win – they certainly made it difficult for us,” Keane, who denied he was disappointed to start the game on the bench, said. “It’s about the team and about the squad and the lads who came in today were superb.”

Celtic manager Tony Mowbray hailed the contribution of his recruit from Tottenham, saying: “He adds real quality, real class. His quality in the final third made the difference.” Mowbray added: “I thought we controlled the game pretty well, although it was disappointing to lose the goals.”

Tony Mowbray is hoping Keane’s home debut against Hearts on Wednesday night will inspire Celtic in their title chase of Premier League leaders Rangers.

“I hope Robbie is fired up for Wednesday, that’s why he only played 45 today,” Mowbray said.

“He was always going to be playing 90 minutes on Wednesday, or at least starting the game. I spoke to Robbie during the week (after the Kilmarnock game). Three 90 minutes in seven days for the boy is probably asking for trouble injury-wise, and I think he agreed.

“But I am delighted Robbie is here because he adds that finesse in the final third that sometimes makes that difference in games.”
