CAMOGIE ROUND-UP: WHILE THE Galway hurlers were dishing out a heavy defeat to Cork yesterday, the Galway camogie team were creating quite a stir in Duggan Park, Ballinasloe, defeating the All-Ireland senior champions Cork, 1-10 to 0-7, in a rematch of last year's final.

After playing with the strong breeze, Galway started the second half of the National League, first round tie 1-6 to 0-2 in front – Jessica Gill blasting a fifth-minute free to the net to give her side a lead they would never lose.

Elsewhere, league title holders Kilkenny made an impressive start to their new campaign, putting Dublin to the sword, 4-14 to 1-5, in Kilmanagh. Katie Power and Marie Dargan bagged a pair of goals each, while the Dublin green flag came from Joelenne Hoary.

And there was further good news for Kilkenny with St Brigid’s Callan defeating Christ King Cork, 6-6 to 2-6, in their replayed AllIreland senior A College’s semi-final at Castle Grounds, Cork.
