Cork will have new hurling captain next season following the defeat of county champions Imokilly in yesterday's dramatic semi-final at Pairc Ui Rinn. Mark Landers' reign is over and ironically it was his Killeagh and Cork colleague, Joe Deane, who finished it.

The dynamic corner-forward, who is in his last season with College, pounced for the winning goal two minutes into injury-time to send UCC into their first final since 1970.

Next season Deane will be in Imokilly's colours! An Eoin Bennett goal helped UCC to a 1-10 to 0-6 interval lead, but goals from Seanie O'Farrell and Mick Daly brought the champions back into contention. They swept two points clear and seemed poised for their fourth consecutive final until Deane intervened.
