Social partnership

Sir, - What partnership? First we had the banks, now we have the corrupt politicians and businessmen. The arrogance and smugness of these people is stomach-churning. It was politicians such as Mr Charles Haughey who conceived social partnership. While he and his partners were telling us to tighten our belts they skived their money away and people died on hospital waiting lists. The banks used the flight of capital argument to get away with the evasion of DIRT. The Revenue Commissioners seemed to be interested only in the PAYE sector, the easy catch as usual. All this on top of the outrageous corruption of the planning process.

Today it's fair to say we have a housing scandal because we have a planning scandal because we have a corruption scandal. There is also another hidden scandal going on. It's the silence scandal where are our trade union leaders, our community leaders, our Christian leaders have lost either their memory or their pride in partnership. Is no one going to stand up and declare that enough is enough? - Yours, etc.,
