A chara, – I fully agree with Kevin Timoney (May 29th) regarding Dublin Bus’s inability to accept €5 notes. Recently I had occasion to bring 12 excited 11-year-old children on a birthday treat from Clondalkin to Dublin on the 69 bus. I offered the correct fare, including two €5 notes, but was told this could not be accepted. I was told my only option was to remove the children (including the birthday girl, my daughter) from the bus.
It was only through the kindness and generosity of the passengers, from Clondalkin and Rathcoole, that the day was saved.
They took out their loose change and together we made up the fare and the children’s birthday treat went to plan. Surely, Dublin Bus can offer its passengers something a little more flexible and understanding? – Yours, etc,
