Sir, - Teachers at the ASTI conference criticised Niamh Breathnach for her proposal to remove history as a core subject for the Junior Certificate (April 12th).
In 1987 an English academic, Tom Arkwell, wrote an article entitled: "Why should English children study Irish history?" Perhaps Niamh in 1996 should exercise a right of reply aimed at history teachers, entitled. Why should Irish children study Irish history?" Yours, etc.,
