Sir, – WJ Murphy cites the poet WH Davies’s lines “What is this life, if full of care, we have not time to stand and stare?” (January 23rd). However, the things WH Davies chose to stand and stare at were woods, streams and skies not Tescos, Dunnes and Specsavers (although, admittedly, all these have branches). – Yours, etc,
