Madam, – The reference by Peter Doyle (October 4th) to the Fianna Fáil election slogan for the last general election got me thinking of the onerous task facing some advertising agency to come up with a positive slogan that could encompass Fianna Fáil’s legacy of this, its latest term in office. The best I could come up with is, Fianna Fáil: “Bringing us closer to Europe”, a true reflection of where we are; sounding relatively positive, without telling a lie.
However, I think our esteemed former leader Bertie, in his latest advert might have inadvertently given us the most accurate slogan for his party to use, Fianna Fáil: “Never thought we would end up here”. – Yours, etc,
