Sir, - I note with interest that CIE expects to spend a large amount of money in modernising the mainline railway stations in Dublin. May I make a suggestion concerning Heuston Station; that the station be rebuilt to the west of the existing station, close to the Loop Line. Although the building of a completely new station would be expensive, and the new station would be located further from the city centre, I can see two immediate advantages.
The first would be that a new station in this location could accommodate a much larger number of platforms than the present one, which is rather cramped and offers no room for expansion. The second would be that direct rail services could be made available to the Connolly/Pearse axis, thus integrating the rail services around Dublin, and avoiding the need for the proposed LUAS system to run close to Heuston. - Yours, etc.,
