Sir, – One of the beauties – and complexities – of the Irish language is that we still have a genetive case, so it would be Áras na nDaoine (with the D silent), or, to take your correspondent, Mattie Lennon's suggestion (November 4th), Áras an Fhile (with the F silent). It might be simpler to leave well enough alone, but just ask people to pronounce Áras an Uachtaráin more correctly.
