Sir, – From August 4th, China has been conducting military exercises in the waters surrounding Taiwan, launching multiple missiles in an effort to demonstrate its capability to block and intimidate the island nation. Such behaviour is blatantly antagonistic, falling under the very definition of aggression as interpreted by UN General Assembly Resolution 3314 (XXIX). We call on the international community to head our pleas and take notice of the perilous security concerns that Taiwan faces. The issue of mainland China’s aggression involves not only Taiwan’s own self-preservation, but also considerations of international justice, humanitarian peace and the maintenance of the international rule of law that should worry the global community.
If we cannot halt China’s intrusive use of military force and its flagrant attempts to undermine peace, maybe the tragedy of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine will be doomed to repeat itself in the Asia-Pacific region? – Yours, etc,
