Two people have been killed in separate road crashes in Cork and Down.
A man in his 20s was killed this morning in a multi-vehicle collision in Co Cork.
The crash happened on the N22 between Macroom and Killarney, just outside Ballyvourney at 9.20am.
Gardaí said the dead man was travelling alone when the car he was driving collided with two other vehicles.
A second motorist was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital, his injuries are not serious.
Emergency services remain at the scene and Kerry-bound traffic is being diverted from Macroom to Millstreet, Rathmore and then to Killarney. The same diversions are in place for Cork-bound traffic.
A male pedestrian was also killed after he was hit by a car in Newry, Co Down.
The incident happened at around 3.20am on the Warrenpoint Road. Police later named the victim as
18-year-old Stephen Markey, who was from the Warrenpoint area.
The stretch of road will remain closed as crash investigators examine the scene.
The PSNI have appealed for anyone who travelled along the road around the time of the crash to come forward.
