Cape Town - Archbishop Desmond Tutu said yesterday that his prostate cancer appears to have recurred and he will undergo tests in Atlanta, Georgia, this week to determine new treatment.
The archbishop, a champion of the anti-apartheid struggle in South Africa and former head of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) which investigated apartheid-era abuses, was diagnosed with cancer and treated in 1997.
"On Thursday I will have an operation to determine whether the cancer has spread beyond the prostate gland," he said in Atlanta, where he has been on sabbatical since August, 1998.
