Latvia scored two late goals in Istanbul tonight for a 2-2 draw against Turkey in the Euro 2004 playoffs to win a place in the finals.

The Latvians, who shocked the World Cup semi-finalists with a 1-0 victory in Riga on Saturday, secured their first appearance in the finals of a major international tournament when Maris Verpakovskis equalised in the 77th minute.

Turkey, who dominated the match, took the lead in the 21st minute with an exquisite long-range effort from Besiktas striker Ilhan Mansiz and added a second from Hakan Sukur shortly after the interval.

Jurijs Laizans latched onto a freekick in the 66th minute to get Latvia back into the tie and Verpakovskis sealed the aggregate victory 11 minutes later, running into the Turkish penalty area and beat Omer Catkic with a right-footed drive.

Spain cruised into the Euro 2004 finals with a stylish 3-0 victory over Norway in their playoff second leg.

Raul, who scored in Saturday's 2-1 first leg win in Valencia, was on target again after 34 minutes before second half goals from Vicente and Joseba Etxeberria secured a 5-1 aggregate win.

Spain were simply a different class to their opponents, who struggled to contain the creative skills of Juan Carlos Valeron and failed to pose a threat to goalkeeper Iker Casillas.

Valeron provided the neat through ball for Raul's opener, while Vicente grabbed Spain's second in the 49th minute before luckless Norway keeper Espen Johnsen cleared straight to the head of Etxeberria, who nodded in the third.
