The Venezuelan driver of a circus truck involved in a crash in Co Galway yesterday that killed a woman and her daughter has been remanded in custody.

Francesco Daria was charged at a special sitting of the district court last night with dangerous driving and causing the death of Joan Reilly and daughter Siobhan (24) from Cloon, Claregalway.

The crash occurred at Cloonacauneen, near Corinthians Rugby Football Club, on the N17 Galway-Tuam road, shortly before 6am.

Mr Daria was remanded in custody to Castlerea Prison to appear before the District Court in Galway again on Monday.
