The British Conservative Party  has withdrawn its support for an inquiry into the intelligence on Iraq that sent the country to war.

Intensifying political pressure on the British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Conservative support for the inquiry, to be headed by former top civil servant Lord Butler, would have been key to putting to
rest questions over intelligence on Iraq.

The Conservative leader Michael Howard wrote to Blair and stated that he had decided to
withdraw his backing.
