The Taliban's spiritual leader is reported to have said it is intent on destroying America.
According to BBC Radio 5, Mullah Mohamad Omar said territorial loses in Afghanistan were not important because the Taliban has a "big cause" that he said was the destruction of the United States.
Speaking to the BBC's Pashtu-language service, he said the southern city of Kandahar remained in Taliban control.
Mullah Omar also rejected any co-operation in a future broad-based government for Afghanistan.
His statement came as the UN Security Council unanimously endorsed a resolution sponsored by Britain and France, backing a plan for the country's political future.
Mullah Omar told the BBC the Taliban preferred death to participating in what he said would be an evil government.
He said it was not important how many provinces in Afghanistan were now under his control, because territory could be lost and regained.
