The third day of the public inquiry into the £20 million Dundrum by pass in South County Dublin, closed yesterday with a call for a speedy and positive decision on the route from the Minister for the Environment, Mr Howlin. The call was made by Mr Paul Gallagher, senior counsel, acting for Dun LaoghaireRathdown County Council.

Summing up the evidence of the inquiry, Mr Gallagher said he felt the objectors' concerns had been aired and addressed and there was now "an urgent need for the provision of the road improvements which would be provided by the scheme".

The inquiry inspector, Mr L A O'Connell, will now present his report to the Minister, who may approve, reject or approve the scheme with amendments.
