A mob of up to 200 people tonight attacked police and soldiers after they made an arrest in North Belfast.

A mob of up to 200 people tonight attacked police and soldiers after they made an arrest in North Belfast.

The security forces came under a sustained attack after officers arrested a woman and recovered a quantity of ammunition during the search of a house in Mountvernon.

A number of plastic bullets were fired by police after officers were targeted with petrol bombs, paint bombs, bricks and other missiles.

A number of police vehicles were damaged during the disturbances. The Shore Road between Fortwilliam Park and Donegall Park Avenue were sealed off during the incident, as was the M2 slip road at Fortwilliam.
