Search co-ordinators yesterday appealed to trawler owners throughout West Cork for assistance as they continue to search for missing 22-year-old student Jonathan Herlihy who drowned while rescuing two swimmers off Owenahincha Strand in west Cork on Sunday afternoon.

The body of a second man, Peter O'Keeffe, has been found.

Lieut Cmdr Brian Fitzgerald of the LE Aoife renewed his appeal to the owners of small trawlers to contact the Naval Service with a view to joining in the search.

The search for Mr Herlihy, who had returned from the summer in the US and was to graduate at University College Cork with a BSc in finance, resumes today at first light.
