Seal may be taught how to fend for itself

A seal may be moved to the north Dublin coast to try to teach it to fish for itself rather than being fed by humans.

For the second time in a month, the adult harbour seal has become beached in Arklow's dock after either following local herring boats or fleeing from rival grey seals.

Rescuer Claire Tyrrell said the seal was being fed by a local fisherman and "you could nearly set your watch by the time that the seal would pop up to be fed".

The Dublin Seal Sanctuary believes this is the same seal they had in their care in September and that it has struck up such a close relationship with humans it has lost the inclination to fend for itself.
