The Cork senior footballers will play no further part in this year's senior football championship, having been beaten by Roscommon on a 0-14 to 1-10 scoreline at Dr Hyde Park this afternoon, in the first round of the SFC qualifiers.

A late revival from the Leesiders was not enough to overcome Tommy Carr's side, who were dominant from the outset and led 0-10 to 0-05 at half time. An attempted rally by Larry Tompkins' men saw them get to within two points of the Connachtmen, but it proved not to be enough.

Meanwhile, goals from Anthony Tohill, Dermot Duggan and Enda Muldoon saw Derry defeat Wexford by 3-10 to 0-09 at Wexford Park this afternoon. The game had started as an even affair, until two Derry goals, from Tohill and Duggan just before the break, gave Derry an interval lead of 2-03 to 0-06.

The second half saw the tide turn against Wexfordmen, and their cause wasn't helped by the sending off of David Murphy for a second yellow card. Derry corner back Muldoon finished the game off with a goal shortly afterwards.

It was also a good day for Offaly who trounced London 4-15 to 0-10 in Tullamore. Despite a solid London start, goals from influential Faithful midfielder Ciaran McManus, and notable points from John Reynolds and Roy Malone, helped the Offalymen on their way to the second round of the qualifiers.
