As expected, the former Irish Farmers' Association president, Mr Tom Parlon, was the unanimous choice of all of the IFA county executives, who met on Monday night to choose a new president.
The 29 county executives, representing 925 branches of the organisation, nominated Mr Parlon to the post he vacated during the factory blockades.
When nominations closed at IFA headquarters in Bluebell, Dublin, at noon yesterday, Mr Parlon's victory was announced by IFA's returning officer, Mr Gerry Maguire.
