Power Leisure said today the year has started robustly with strong activity.

The company, which trades as Paddy Power Bookmakers, said turnover for the 15 weeks to April 16th has increased by about 68 per cent compared to the same period in 2001.

The group said at the company's AGM that trading for the year to date has been very strong with the underlying growth seen in the second half of 2001 continuing this year.

Although part of this growth reflects the impact of the limited horse racing due to the foot and mouth outbreak in March last year, underlying trading has also started the year very strongly.
