The first public meeting of the Omagh District Policing Partnership was called off last night after protests by republicans.

Chanting drowned out speakers at the meeting forcing it to be cut short.

District Policing Partnerships were established in the North as part of police reform in an effort to make the PSNI more accountable in local areas.

Crime and underage drinking were among the topics to be discussed at the meeting.DPP chairman, Mr Gerry O'Doherty of the SDLP said the protests were "disgraceful".

"Anybody who disrupts the meeting and does not allow people to speak is guilty of pure fascism, as far as I'm concerned," he said.
