A fresh appeal by Lee Clegg, the paratrooper convicted of murdering Karen Reilly, is to be heard on June 16th. Clegg has been free on licence since July, 1995, and is now back serving in the Parachute Regiment.

It will be Clegg's third appeal against his conviction and life sentence arising out of the killing of the teenager in west Belfast in 1990. The case was referred in January for the new hearing in the Appeal Court in Belfast by the former Northern Secretary, Sir Patrick Mayhew. He asked the court to consider new forensic evidence submitted by Clegg's new solicitors.
