A rally is to take place in Killarney over the May bank holiday weekend to offset the cancellation of the Rally of the Lakes, writes Anne Lucey. Organisers say the mini-rally along an eight-mile circuit of Killarney on Sunday afternoon will give sponsors an opportunity for a driving exhibition. Sixty drivers will lap the town for two hours and television time has already been bought. Up to £40,000 is to be raised locally to help to stage the rally. Normally only £4,000 is contributed to the Rally of the Lakes, which brings more than £8 million to the town annually.
