ONE OF the 14 people arrested on Tuesday over the murder of Limerickman Shane Geoghegan last November was released without charge yesterday. A file is being sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Another man was arrested in the Ballinacurra Weston area of the city as part of the same investigation and was being held under section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act last night at Roxboro Garda station in Limerick city.

A 37-year-old female was also arrested last night in connection with the ongoing investigation. She is being held at Ennis Garda station under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

Fifteen people remained in custody last night at separate Garda stations in Limerick and Clare in connection with the inquiry, which Chief Supt Gerry Mahon has described as one of the “most significant” in the Limerick Garda division in recent years.

The arrests over the past days began early last Tuesday in a series of pre-planned searches involving more than 70 Gardai.

Six of those detained last night were being held on suspicion of murder, while the remaining nine were being questioned in relation to withholding information contrary to section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
