A man who sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl at his sister's home has been jailed for 18 months by Judge Elizabeth Dunne. The 34-year-old man pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to one charge of sexual assault on January 10th, 1998. He had one previous conviction for common assault. Det Garda James Byrne told Ms Orla Crowe, prosecuting, the incident had occurred after the victim and a friend had been drinking in a bar where they met the defendant. Ms Marie Torrens, defending, said her client was horrified when he learned the girl was only 14. Judge Dunne said she would deal with the matter leniently. The last 12 months of the sentence were suspended and the man was ordered to enter into a two-year good behaviour bond.
