Man guilty of having pipe bomb

A bomb was thrown through the front window of a house containing two infants and three children, a court heard yesterday.

A bomb was thrown through the front window of a house containing two infants and three children, a court heard yesterday.

The bomb, which landed on a kitchen table, failed to detonate.

A 14-year-old girl and two baby girl infants, aged 11 months and 18 months, were in the house at Greenmount Avenue, Ballinacurra Weston, Limerick, at the time. A boy aged 14 and an 11-year-old girl were also in the house.

The bomb was made up of shotgun cartridge propellant, lead shot and marbles.

Stephen Mulqueen (20), Lenihan Avenue, Prospect, Limerick, appeared for sentencing yesterday at Limerick Circuit Court.

He pleaded guilty to having the pipe bomb in his possession on May 15th, 2011.
