A 19-year-old-man was killed and his 17-year-old brother were seriously injured in a two-car collision outside Tralee in Co Kerry tonight.
The crash happened on the Tralee to Ardfert road about two miles from Tralee at around 6.30pm when two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision.
The driver of one the cars, a 19-year-old man from North Kerry, was pronounced dead at the scene while his 17-year-old brother was seriously injured in the collision.
He was taken by ambulance to Kerry General Hospital in Tralee where his condition was last night described by a HSE South spokeswoman as "serious".
The occupants of the other car, a man and woman, believed to be in their late 20s or early 30s, were uninjured but were treated for shock at the scene.
Gardaí immediately closed off the road to allow a Garda forensic crash investigator examine the scene of the collision tomorrow. The two vehicles involved in the crash were removed to Tralee Garda Station for examination by a Garda PSV inspector.
Gardaí in Tralee have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or travelled the road around 6.30pm to contact them on 066-7102300.
