A strike of lightning in Galway city left 15,000 ESB customers without power yesterday. Supplies were restored within an hour. The strike hit the ESB transformer at Salthill shortly after 10 a.m. and caused significant damage, according to a board spokeswoman. The areas affected were in the west of the city and from Salthill to Clifden.
