An investigation is under way after an Air Corps helicopter sent out an urgency signal on a training exercise eight miles west of Sligo.

Coastguard units were put on alert yesterday after the Air Corps Dauphin helicopter reported engine problems at about 12.30 p.m., and sent out a pan signal, which is a lower form of Mayday, Malin Head coastguard said. The helicopter arrived safely in Sligo.
