THE HIGH Court has granted an injunction preventing trade union Siptu from blocking access to two premises operated by the Mr Binman refuse collection and recycling companies.
Ms Justice Mary Laffoy granted an injunction preventing Siptu from blocking access and egress to Dungarvan and Carrick-on-Suir depots. She said Siptu may apply to vary or discharge the injunction on notice to Mr Binman and returned the matter to next week.
The companies sought the court order following a two-month strike by Siptu members which began over pay cuts and the right of the union to negotiate on behalf of its members.
Pickets were placed at the premises of a Mr Binman subsidiary company, Clearpoint, based in Ballylynch, Carrick-on-Suir, Co Tipperary, where 40 people are employed in recycling and reprocessing of waste, the court heard.
Pickets were later put on Mr Binman’s main base, Kilmallock in Limerick, and at the Dungarvan, Co Waterford, premises of a subsidiary, O’Meara Waste Disposal.
