Man critical after suffering head injuries
A Cork man was in a critical condition in hospital last night after he sustained head injuries in a house in Tralee.
Gardaí are investigating the circumstances in which the 42-year-old man was hurt on Sunday night. The man, believed to be from the south side of Cork, had been living at Upper Rock Street, Tralee, for about seven years.
Emergency services were called to the house at about 1am yesterday, where the man was found with serious head injuries.
Two charged over assault
Two men have been arrested and charged in connection with an alleged sexual assault that took place in Clonmel on March 15th.
A woman was making her way home when she was offered a lift by three men in a car. It is alleged she was assaulted by at least one of the men.
Two men in their early 20s were arrested in Cahir over the weekend. One has been remanded in Limerick Prison to appear before Cahir District Court on April 28th. The other has been released on bail.
Disarmament meeting in Dublin
Participants from more than a dozen countries, UN agencies and non- governmental organisations will meet in Dublin this week to discuss ways to strengthen the nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation regime, writes Mary FitzGerald.
The fifth Middle Powers Initiative (MPI) Article VI forum will take place at Dublin Castle on March 26th-28th with the support of the Government.
Founded in 1998, the Middle Powers Initiative is a campaign organised by non-governmental organisations to work closely with "middle power countries" on the development of a disarmament agenda.
Woman in hospital after fire
A woman remains in intensive care following a fire at her home in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Carmel Flood was in the sitting room of her home at Lough Gate, Portarlington, Co Laois, when a fire broke out in the kitchen.
A neighbour contacted emergency services.
