Missing Bull snake triggers Garda search
Gardaí are attempting to locate a snake which disappeared following a burglary in Dublin city centre.
The Bull snake, which is green in colour with black spots on its back, was either taken or escaped from a property in the North Strand area on Thursday.
The snake, which is approximately 3ft in length, is not venomous. However, gardaí say that members of the public should approach it with caution because it has the potential to cause injury and if cornered will strike.
Orla Aungier of the Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said the organisation regularly received calls about escaped snakes.
“Snakes are not native to Ireland so they could not be capable of surving in the wild,” she said.
“These creatures would be vulnerable if out in the wild and, even though snakes sold in Ireland are not venomous, they are territorial narky creatures who are capable of biting.”
