Hungarian planned to kill at random
BUDAPEST – A 22-year-old Hungarian student who told police he planned to kill 22 people at random because he’d had “22 bad years” has been detained.
The student identified by police as “Abel S”, a sports shooter, owned a Luger Parabellum pistol and had planned the attack for more than 18 months, Budapest police criminal director Zsolt Bodnar said. He said the man had wanted to kill 22 people at his university and at a shopping mall. – (Reuters)
Couple plead in starvation case
LONDON – A mother and her partner accused of starving her seven-year-old daughter to death admitted the girl’s manslaughter yesterday.
Angela Gordon’s daughter, Khyra Ishtaq, died in May 2008 after she was taken to hospital from her home in Handsworth, Birmingham.
Gordon (35) and her partner, Junaid Abuhamza (30), entered guilty pleas to manslaughter at their trial at Birmingham Crown Court. Abuhamza’s plea was accepted but Gordon’s was rejected and she remains on trial for murder.
Inquiry into prince's driving
LONDON – British police said yesterday they were looking into a report that Prince Andrew had hit a police officer with his car as he drove in to Buckingham Palace.
The incident allegedly happened last week as Andrew, second son of Queen Elizabeth, drove into a side entrance to the palace in central London.
The officer tried to clear tourists out of his way, the Sun newspaper reported, adding that the prince had failed to stop. – (Reuters)
