Preston - A consultant gynaecologist was yesterday cleared of raping a patient during a hypnosis session. But minutes after the jury at Preston Crown Court delivered its verdict, it emerged that Darwish Hasan Darwish was already serving a six-year jail sentence for a string of indecent assaults on patients during the 1980s.
The 55-year-old gynaecologist dropped to his knees and praised Allah as the jury foreman announced the verdict. He was accused of raping the 54-year-old woman during a hypnotherapy session in 1985 after she was referred to him for sex counselling following the birth of her second child in 1981.
