Four die in weekend road accidents and house fire

Eoin Kelly, Lanesboro, was the passenger in a car which left the road between 4am and 6am at Doughill, Curraghroe, Co Roscommon.

The driver of the car, a friend of Mr Kelly's, was taken to Roscommon Hospital but his injuries were said not to be life threatening.

A man in his late 30s also died yesterday when his motorcycle crashed at O'Brien's Bridge, Killaloe, Co Clare, shortly after 5pm.

Meanwhile, gardaí in the midlands are investigating a road accident which claimed the life of a 45-year-old farmer.

Joe Boland, Ballycommon, Tullamore, Co Offaly, was fatally injured in an apparent motorbike crash near his home shortly before 10pm on Friday.

Gardaí said the circumstances were still under investigation but it appeared Mr Boland had fallen from his motorbike.

There were no other vehicles involved in the incident.

Gardaí in Dublin are investigating a fatal house fire at Grosvenor Square, Rathmines, at the weekend, which claimed the life of a man in his 60s.
