Wuppertal - Four people were killed and at least 39 injured yesterday when a crowded overhead monorail train jumped the rail and one of its cars fell 10 metres (33 feet) into a river, police said.
The incident occurred on a commuter route in Wuppertal, a town in the Ruhr industrial area in western Germany. The carriage fell on to a pipeline and broke in two. Its front and tail sections dipped into the Wupper river which is one metre (three feet) deep at the site of the accident. The 13 km system was built in 1901.
