The DPP has decided that a former director of Cavan Crystal is to be tried in the Circuit Court on charges of making false tax returns, Dublin District Court was told yesterday.

Mr Brian Williams, of Inchicore Rd, Dublin, was charged by gardai from the Fraud Squad on 14 counts of making false returns under the Finance Act and with fraudulent trading.

State solicitor Ms Clare Loftus said the DPP had directed the case to be heard on indictment, but asked for a short remand to allow the defendant time to decide how he wanted to meet the case.

Judge Catherine Murphy remanded the defendant on continuing bail to appear again on November 6th.
